HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - AAA Bluegrass is reminding drivers how to safely handle minor crashes, especially during the busy summer travel season.
Public Affairs Manager Lori Weaver Hawkins said the first priority is to stay calm and check for injuries. If anyone is hurt, call 911 immediately. If the collision is minor and the vehicles can still be driven, she recommends moving them to the side of the road to avoid creating another accident.
Hawkins said it is also important to call police, explain what happened, and get the responding officer’s name and badge number. Document the damage by taking plenty of photos and making notes about the scene, even small details can be important later.
“Document the damage of the vehicles. This is a step that a lot of times people don’t think about,” Hawk
