(KIMT) -- A hot, humid, and hazy Friday is ahead as the peak of our hot and humid stretch arrives. Expect high temperatures in the upper 80s with dew points surging to the low to mid 70s Friday afternoon. These conditions will allow heat index values to approach the triple digits. Try to drink plenty of water while maximizing the use of shade and AC!

On top of this, wildfire smoke from NW Colorado fires will stream in Friday afternoon, bringing a bit of a hazy sky to the entire region.

Our upper-atmospheric pattern will support a conveyor belt of smoke arriving from Colorado through Friday. A bowling ball of low pressure to the north and a building ridge of high pressure to the south will combine forces (and wind directions) to achieve this.
