FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) - Frankfort is not without its history, and in April, some of the city's historic buildings, including the Paul Sawyier Public Library, were hit hard by near-historic levels of flooding.

While the water has receded and Kentucky's capital city has returned to normal, it goes without saying that a lot of work was done to get to this next chapter.

Library Executive Director Jean Ruark said it was surreal when the flood came through. She said she had never seen that much water flood into the library's parking garage, and in the days after, it felt like walking through a war zone.

Water surrounded the building and got up into the parking garage and both elevators.
