HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- All southbound lanes of the Gulf Freeway have reopened after being closed for hours due to a deadly crash on Friday morning, police say.

The Houston Police Department said dispatchers received a call around 3 a.m. about a body in the middle of the Gulf Freeway.

The deadly crash caused a complete closure of the freeway near Callie Street in the Greater Third Ward for several hours.

According to Houston Transtar, lanes reopened at about 8 a.m.

Police said the caller reported that the body was hit by several vehicles. An investigation is underway, but further details weren't disclosed.
