ST. JOSEPH, Ill. (WCIA) -- Emergency responders were called to I-74 near St. Joseph Thursday evening after an SUV caught fire on the shoulder of the highway.
The fire happened three miles west of the exit to St. Joseph around 6:52 p.m. Officials from the St. Joseph-Stanton Fire Protection District said on Facebook that a tanker and an engine responded; they found the SUV fully engulfed in flames on the shoulder when they arrived.
Everyone who was inside the SUV had gotten out, and no one was hurt, fire officials said. Crews used both water and foam to fight the fire; water to get under the hood and extinguish interior hot spots and foam because the fire burned through the fuel lines and gasoline was "continually" igniting.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, officials added.
