LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The Louisville district of the US Army Corps of Engineers has responded to the viral claims of raw sewage being dumped into the Ohio River near the McAlpine Locks and Dam.
They said a recent TikTok video that went viral making those claims wrong and that it’s actually sediment from the bottom of the river. They said it’s part of a scheduled dredging operation where, each year, nearly 1 million cubic yards of sediment gets brought up from the bottom of the river at 10 different sites.
The Corps said a special rotating mechanical device loosens all of that material and sucks it through the dredge for disposal, keeping the navigable channel clear for tows and barges.
