GRANT TOWNSHIP — A proposed 110-megawatt solar energy facility that would span more than 800 acres in Cheboygan County is under consideration by the Cheboygan County Planning Commission.

According to the proposal from EDP Renewables North America LLC , through its subsidiary Northern Waters Solar Park LLC, submitted a Special Use Permit and Site Plan application for the Northern Waters Solar Park, which would be located on approximately 810 acres of privately owned agricultural land in Grant Township, south of the city of Cheboygan.

The proposed Level 3 photovoltaic solar energy system would supply energy to the local power grid through a planned interconnection point at an existing electrical transmission line near Twin Lakes Road and North Black River Road. The facility is expected t
