(NewsNation) — Amtrak will soon debut its new NextGen Acela trains after years of delays.
The high-speed trains will debut Aug. 28, according to a news release, and will connect the Northeast corridor, making stops in Washington, D.C., New York and Boston.
Five of the new trains will debut upon launch, with 28 trains set to run by 2027.
The trains will feature additional daily departures, 27% more seats per train, free WIFI, expanded dining options and promises of a "smoother, quieter ride," according to the release.
The trains will reach top speeds of 160 mph, 10 mph faster than the older models.
“In just a few weeks, history will be made with the debut of NextGen Acela as we launch a new standard for American train travel,” said Amtrak President Roger Harris.
