ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) - Washington Junior High School is undergoing repairs after severe storms caused water damage.
Rock Island Superintendent Sharon Williams said on the morning of July 11 severe storms caused water pressure in the roof’s drainage system. Clean-out components then failed and water got into the building.
Williams said the most significant damage happened to the stage flooring and gymnasium floor which will both need a full replacement.
A few other areas had water as well but Williams said they were addressed and resolved.
Due to the damage and replacement work, Williams said the district is partnering with First Nazarene Church to use their gym for fall athletics’ practices and games. Transportation will be provided to students.
Gym classes will continue at the sc
