Members of the United States Army Special Operations Command will conduct military training in and around Newnan on Saturday, Aug. 16, according to the City of Newnan.

The exercise will include rotary-wing and ground mobility operations, as well as ground-based close-quarters battle training.

Officials emphasized the training is not in response to any local events. Safety precautions are in place to protect both participants and residents, and planning efforts are aimed at minimizing the impact on the community.

No public viewing opportunities will be available, as participants will maintain a high level of security throughout the exercise.

City officials said Newnan’s terrain provides a unique training opportunity that simulates environments troops may encounter while deployed.
