DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — ZAKIA KHAN, 54, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to conspiring to defraud Medicaid of $68 million through her two social adult day cares in Coney Island, according to a release from Joseph Nocella, Jr., United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. From 2017 to 2024, Khan and marketers she employed referred Medicaid recipients to Happy Family and Family Social daycare centers, paying kickbacks and bribes to patients for unprovided services and laundering proceeds via multiple entities. She agreed to forfeit $5 million, including properties and jewelry. Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew Galeotti said, “Americans will not stand for these schemes.”
