LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness was notified of a laboratory-confirmed case of West Nile virus in a Louisville resident.
This is the first confirmed case of 2025.
There have been no deaths related to West Nile virus in 2025 to date.
In most instances, people infected with West Nile show no symptoms.
Less than 1% of infected people develop a serious neurologic illness such as encephalitis or meningitis. Serious illness can occur in people of any age.
The most commonly affected group is people over 60 with certain medical conditions.
