While winter is still five months away, there are a few things we can start to look at for the winter forecast.

Here is the latest December 2025 to February 2026 forecast from NOAA’s long-range weather forecasters. This was the forecast issued in mid-July. We will get another update each month around the middle of the month. Our next update on the winter forecast comes around August 21.

I read the discussion from the long-range forecasters. They tell us the winter will not have an ongoing El Niño. It also looks like winter will not have a meaningful La Niña. El Niño often creates a big warming effect on our Michigan winter. A strong La Niña can make our temperatures lean slightly toward colder than normal.
