BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) -- A Bristol man accused of driving under the influence and injuring two police officers in the process was arrested early Thursday morning.

Police said Andrew McCool, 38, collided with the back of a police cruiser that was at a traffic stop on Hope Street around 12:15 a.m.

The force of the crash caused the cruiser to collide with another one in front of it, according to police. The officer in the driver's seat of the second cruiser and another officer who was standing outside it both suffered injuries.

Police said prior to the crash, McCool was refused service at a local liquor store because of how intoxicated he was, and that a witness tried to stop him from driving.
