ATLANTA — Authorities are investigating reports of an active shooter near Emory University. The incident is unfolding at Emory Point, close to the CVS pharmacy. Police have urged people in the area to avoid it and to shelter in place.

Emory University issued an emergency alert advising individuals to “RUN, HIDE, FIGHT.” The alert emphasized the need to stay away from the vicinity as law enforcement responds to the situation.

Witnesses described hearing a series of gunshots. Brandy Giraldo, the chief operating officer of General Muir, a deli near the campus, stated, “It sounded like fireworks going off, one right after the other.” Staff at the deli locked the doors and took cover inside as the situation developed.

The FBI is also aware of the situation and is coordinating with local authorities. An officer has been sent to Emory University Hospital, but no details about the officer's condition have been released.
