DETROIT LAKES — A former Frazee woman won the WE Fest Karaoke Contest and earned the right to sing the National Anthem on the country music festival’s main stage on Friday evening.

Mikayla Koski of Park Rapids outsang three other finalists – Ashley Block of Elk River, Taylor Made of St. Cloud and Hunter Evenson of Rochester – to win the contest at WE Fest’s Neon Saloon on Friday afternoon.

It was a long road for all four finalists: The first competition was held in April, at 17 bars in Minnesota and one in North Dakota, with 107 competitors, according to Heather Ware Nelson, director of the WE Fest Karaoke Contest. WE Fest provided the platform and the judging guidelines and the bars provided their own judges, she said.
