The Alaska International Senior Games held their opening ceremony on Friday at the Centennial Center for the Arts at Pioneer Park. The games serve as Alaska’s qualifier for the National Senior Games, a national organization for athletes 50 and older.
The event alternates annually between qualifying and non-qualifying years, with 2025 being a non-qualifying year. Despite that, the games attracted 330 participants from across Alaska, the rest of the United States and around the world.
Putting on the games is a full community effort. Alongside hundreds of competitors, volunteers, commissioners and other leaders work together to ensure the games run smoothly throughout their duration.
