KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. — A man who was the subject of an hours-long negotiation at the Holiday Inn Express in Kings Mountain on Saturday died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to law enforcement.

Several WCNC Charlotte viewers reported seeing officers near the hotel, and photos sent from Karen Darby show a sheriff's office vehicle and what appears to be an armored vehicle.

People at the scene told WCNC Charlotte that the first police officers arrived around 7 a.m. Police were still at the scene through 5 p.m.. Some guests were seen leaving the building, though WCNC Charlotte has learned some people were still in the hotel.
