A Spokane County Sheriff’s sergeant assisting a motorist on Interstate 90 was killed Saturday morning.
The sergeant had pulled off eastbound I-90 near the Four Lakes exit to assist a motorist who had stopped because a bail of hay had fallen from the motorist’s trailer, a Washington State Patrol spokesman said.
While trying to remove the bail, a motorcycle crashed, injuring both the sergeant and the motorcyclist.
The sergeant died at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center. The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries.
Sheriff John Nowels has planned an afternoon news conference to discuss the incident.
