PORTLAND, Ore. — With an extreme heat warning starting at noon Sunday, Portlanders are bracing themselves for the high temperatures.
People we spoke with said they planned to stay inside to stay cool.
“We live in an old craftsman, and it doesn't have AC; it's not very well insulated, so we expect it to be hot,” resident Byron Freney said. “We'll be on the first floor for the most part, just trying to stay cool.”
“I have lung disease. I have COPD, and it's really difficult when it gets hot to breathe,” resident Emily Junge said.
Dr. Richard Bruno, Health Officer at the Multnomah County Health Department, said that people with pre-existing conditions, like Junge, and older people are the most vulnerable to the heat.
