CHEBOYGAN – The final round of the Northern Michigan Open should be a dandy.

During Saturday’s opening round of the 78 th annual Open at the Cheboygan Golf & Country Club, several players put themselves in a solid position to take home the championship flight title , which will be decided in Sunday’s final round.

Holding a one-shot lead is Cheboygan native and current University of Oklahoma golfer PJ Maybank III, who posted a 3-under 67 on Saturday, while Indian River’s Jon Micoff — the 2024 Open champion — fired a 2-under 68. Also in the mix are Zach Koerner (69) and Zack Knoll (70), who will both play in the final group with Maybank and Micoff on Sunday.
