CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District held its annual back-to-school welcoming event at Truist Field Saturday morning with more than 12,000 students in attendance.

The district also gave away other supplies like notebooks and pencils.

"Preparation is always important. It's awesome that people are getting prepared, they're getting excited, they're making sure that they have everything that they need, so then when they get to school on the first day, we can just hit the ground running, ready to learn," said CMS Superintendent Crystal Hill.

President Trump's tariffs come as parents start their back-to-school shopping, and they're looking for good deals before prices potentially go up.
