ROCKWELL, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Rowan County crews responded to a fellow firefighter's home after a lightning strike from over a week ago sparked a fire, officials say.

Early Sunday morning, around 4:30 a.m., crews from the Rockwell Rural Fire Department were paged for a possible structure fire at a firefighter's home.

Crews arrived to find smoke erupting from three sides of the structure. When crews entered the home, they located a small burnt spot under the kitchen table. Crews cut a hole in the floor and found an active fire under the home.

It was later determined that the fire had been smoldering for about a week and a half after a lightning strike hit the residence.
