OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – If you’ve ever gotten a speeding ticket in Ottawa County, you donated to the county’s public libraries.
Under Michigan law, a portion of funds collected from traffic ticket fines are distributed to local libraries where the ticket was issued.
This year, fines from speeding tickets in Ottawa County netted over $682,000 for nine local public libraries across the county, the county treasurer’s office said.
That’s one benefit to your lead foot, said Treasurer Cheryl Clark.
“This is one thing that the Ottawa County Treasurer’s Office is proud to do, is to help out our local libraries by disbursing this money out to them,” she told MLive/The Grand Rapids Press.
