FARGO — Billy Strings may not exactly be a household name, but in homes tuned into bluegrass he certainly is.

The 32-year-old returns to Fargo-Moorhead on Tuesday and is close to selling out the roughly 6,000 seats at Scheels Arena.

Strings was close to selling out Minneapolis’ Target Center at 20,000 on Saturday night.

Born William Lee Apostol, the singer/guitarist spent his teen years learning to play, but was waylaid by drug use. He sobered up and started making a bigger name for himself during the 2010s, playing as much as he could with as many artists as he could.

In 2017 he released his debut solo album, “Turmoil and Tinfoil,” which later prompted a Rolling Stone magazine feature, “Why Billy Strings is the bluegrass you don’t want to miss.” He followed that up with 2019’s “Home,”
