To many who knew him, Jeshua Gabriel Buchoon was witty, loyal and charming. He easily befriended people, pulled off a stellar Jim Carrey impression and loved his four-year-old son with all his being.

“He gave everyone a chance,” said his father, Andrew Buchoon.

He was also regimented. A former member of the Canadian military, the 36-year-old Toronto man was quick to respond if something was wrong. He’d want to set things straight, Andrew said.

“I think that’s what got him shot,” he said.

According to his family, Jeshua died after he was shot on Aug. 2 during an altercation in downtown Toronto. He had just finished volunteering at the city’s Caribbean Carnival with his brother Jadon — something they’ve done for the last four years — and was headed to dinner with friends.
