The sounds of pounding drums and chanting songs spilled out from the grounds of the James Mason Memorial Recreation Centre Saturday afternoon.
Vehicles lined the side of French Bay Road near Chippawa Hill, as people from all over the province and country came in droves to the annual Saugeen First Nation Powwow.

On a scorching hot day, hundreds gathered and surrounded the powwow grounds, most shaded by tents. They watched as dancers dressed in intricate regalia, often decorated with elements of deep meaning, circled the grounds, stepping in time to the drums.
The bright colours, flowing fabrics, and jingling bells that adorned many of the outfits brought a mosaic of sights and sounds that pleased the senses.
