BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- A decorated Baton Rouge Police sergeant has died after what authorities call a “deliberate and cowardly” attack. Sgt. Caleb Eisworth, a 23-year veteran, passed away Sunday, Aug. 10, at a Baton Rouge hospital.

Eisworth was critically injured on June 16, 2025, when investigators say Gad Black, 41, intentionally rammed his pickup truck into Eisworth’s police motorcycle as the officer traveled along Joor Road. Deputies said Black admitted to following Eisworth and expressed a deep hatred for law enforcement.

Black was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder of a police officer, hate crimes, and resisting an officer. His alleged family member, Asia Raby, 40, was charged with obstruction of justice and accessory after the fact to attempted
