MADISON, Wis. — Madison is under a flood watch through Monday morning due to heavy rain, with officials urging residents to stay alert for potential flash flooding.

Flooding has been reported near East Johnson and Fourth Streets, as well as Lexington Avenue and Stoughton Road, among other locations.

Flash floods can occur when stormwater systems are overwhelmed by heavy rain.

City engineering crews have been working to clean storm sewers and grates in priority areas to improve water drainage.

Residents are reminded not to drive through standing water as it poses a significant safety risk. It's also advised to avoid parking on streets known to flood.
