SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Cornerback Pat Surtain II had been the highest-paid player on the Broncos. Now it is defensive end Zach Allen. Soon it might be outside linebacker Nik Bonitto.
Bonitto, entering the final year of his contract, is up for an extension. Surtain figured he helped himself with the pressure he put on 49ers quarterback Mac Jones in the 12 snaps he played in Saturday night’s 30-9 win over San Francisco in the preseason opener at Levi’s Stadium.
“He’s going to break the market,’’ Surtain told The Denver Gazette after the game. “They might give him a blank check.”
Surtain signed a four-year, $96 million extension prior to last season that takes him through 2029 and Allen earlier this month signed a four-year, $102 million extension that also runs through 2029. Bonitto could
