GRAND FORKS — For the first time in 2025, UND football coaches will be able to communicate to a player on the field via headset.
For the offense, it's offensive coordinator Isaac Fruechte in the ear of the Fighting Hawks' quarterback.
For the defense, it's going to be head coach Eric Schmidt directly to the helmet of Grand Forks native Paine Parks.
Parks, a former football and basketball standout at Grand Forks Red River, is entering his first season as a starting linebacker.
"It's challenging because the offense can be up-tempo or at a slow pace, but either way it's about getting the call in the helmet and relaying it to the back end for the coverages and echoing it to the front, too," Parks said. "Everyone has to be on the same page. We really just have that mindset of echoing it. Th
