Summer is peak travel season, and many of us have a recent vacation under our belt or are looking forward to an upcoming one. But one part about vacations nobody looks forward to is their next credit card statement with all those travel expenses.

Vacationing isn’t cheap, and even a relatively modest trip can run into the thousands after taking into account travel costs, hotels, meals and entertainment. But that doesn’t stop most of us in the Seattle area from taking trips.

According to new survey data from market research giant Nielsen, a projected 3.73 million adults in the Seattle market area — that is 83 percent of the 18-and-older population — took a vacation in the past 12 months.
