ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The Lexington County Sheriff’s Office says a state trooper was struck by a vehicle on I-26 while conducting a traffic stop Sunday morning.

Deputies say the incident occurred around 2 a.m. near the 166-mile marker in Orangeburg County. The trooper was conducting a traffic stop on the interstate when and was struck by another vehicle.

The trooper suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital, according to Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Cpt. Adam Myrick.

Orangeburg County deputies say the driver of the vehicle, Anthony Aydlette, 45, of Hanahan, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. He is being held at the Orangeburg County Detention Center.
