SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A black bear was shot outside of a Sevierville home on Sunday after the homeowner said he found the bear in his kitchen, said Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

This happened at around 1:30 PM on Matt Road. The homeowner said he was asleep and was woken up by noises coming from the kitchen.

“Upon investigation, he discovered a black bear that had entered the home after breaking through a screen door,“ said a communications representative with TWRA.

The bear fled the residence but would not leave, and the homeowner shot it with a shotgun outside the home, said TWRA.

The homeowner said the same bear had recently broken into an outbuilding on the property.

“This homeowner did not want to take this action but felt it was necessary to protect his safety,” TWRA
