DALLAS — Dallas ISD’s Lincoln High School is mourning the loss of 17-year-old Roy Lee Hughes Jr., a state champion track athlete.

In a post on X, the school shared a tribute to Hughes, who died Aug. 8, according to the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office.

"We mourn the loss and honor the life and legacy of Legendary Roy Lee Hughes -- a true MODEL who Defied the Odds and Defined Excellence," the post read. "A respectful young man with a heart of gold, he became a state champion through discipline humility & an unshakeable commitment to his team & school."
