HENDERSON, KY. (WFIE) - Sunday was a huge day of horse racing at Ellis Park. Let’s check out the $200,000 Audubon Oaks at the ‘Old Pea Patch’, on Sunday. This one went seven furlongs on the dirt, for 3 year old fillies.
Jockey Tyler Gaffalione came into this race, having already won a total of five races on the day, so he was going for a six-pack of wins!
They’re off and running, and it’s the 6, ‘Princess Proud’, and the 10, ‘Viral Plane Lady’, who take the early lead. As they go around the turn and head for home, though, the 2, ‘Sturgeon Moon’, ridden by Gaffalione, began to make her move.
‘Princess Proud’ is not going away though, as she still leads, but ‘Sturgeon Moon’ and Gaffalione are absolutely flying, and ‘Sturgeon Moon’ gets by in the final sixteenth to win it!
