STRONGSVILLE, Ohio — Riverside coach Jeremy Ishmael left Strongsville High School on Friday pleased that his team brought more fire to its opening scrimmage than this time a year ago.
Ishmael had just taken over for Dave Bors last season, promoted as the team’s defensive coordinator. He had an experienced defense last year and a promising run game with Kyndall McCaleb.
Now McCaleb and the run game are a known commodity while the defense comes into this season as a question mark.
Some of those questions were answered at Strongsville with multiple takeaways.
“Past three years we’ve had some good seasons. Last year we didn’t do so well,” senior linebacker Austin Kalb said. “So, we kind of got a chip on our shoulder. We got something to prove this year and we’re going to prove it.”
