A new national survey suggests most Canadians back the idea of requiring those under 30 to spend a year in mandatory civilian service.
The Angus Reid Institute poll found that at least 70% of respondents support a model similar to programs in countries such as Germany, France, and Norway, which use civilian service to engage young citizens in areas like civil protection, public health, environmental projects, and youth services.
