Several areas in Wisconsin continue to recover today from the weekend’s historic heavy rainfall and flash flooding that filled streets and homes with water, knocked out power and left people stranded.
In some places like Milwaukee, it’s being described as a “500-year flood,” with more than a foot of rain falling within a short period of time.
And while that record-breaking rain did not cross the big lake and deliver the same blow to us, storm damage did shut down a Lake Michigan island known for its iconic lighthouse.
Cana Island is closed until further notice after Saturday night’s storm downed about 30% of the island’s trees and trapped staff and guests in the parking area for hours.
