KALAMAZOO, MI — Kalamazoo is getting state dollars to help assess the condition of the aging Kalamazoo City Hall, 241 W. South St.

Kalamazoo applied for $15,500 from the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office to assess damage from algae, salt and structural movements in January , city spokesperson Mike Smith said.

The city is one of six Michigan communities that were awarded a total of $250,000 by the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office, per a Wednesday, Aug. 13 release.

The money will be used to hire a contractor, who will make a condition assessment report, per the release. This document will provide information needed to make informed decisions for future preservation treatments.
