Tropical Storm Erin has formed in the Atlantic Ocean and is forecast to strengthen into the first hurricane of the season. Erin is located west of Africa’s Cabo Verde islands with sustained winds of 45 mph as of 11 a.m. ET and moving west at speeds of around 20 mph.
Erin is the fifth named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season.
Before becoming a tropical storm, Erin drenched the Cabo Verde islands with flooding rains, leaving several people dead as officials declared a state of calamity on islands of St. Vincent and St. Anthony.
