SANDUSKY, Ohio – A cable snapped Sunday on Cedar Point’s 240-foot-high Power Tower, causing an unexpected evacuation of the ride.

No injuries were reported, according to park spokesman Tony Clark, who said the ride remained closed.

“The ride’s safety system performed as designed, the ride vehicle returned to the loading position and all guests exited the ride safely,” Clark said. “Safety is a top priority and the ride will remain closed while we complete a thorough review and inspection of the ride.”

The ride features four towers which propel rides either up or down at a maximum speed of 60 mph, creating a free-fall effect. Designed and manufactured by Utah-based S&S Worldwide, the ride was new in 1998.
