OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — School bells are about to ring for Oklahoma City Public Schools as students return to class on Wednesday. District officials are answering last-minute questions before the big day.
“This is year 136 for us,” Superintendent Jamie C. Polk said.
Polk said the district is nearly ready for the first day.
“We’re just about 92% enrolled,” she said.
This year brings new changes, including a bell-to-bell cell phone ban approved by state lawmakers.
“Students are not allowed to use personal electronic devices during the school day,” district general counsel Tony Childers said.
From the first bell to the last, phones, smartwatches, and any device that connects via Wi-Fi or cellular data must be put away.
