KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Community Blood Center says the Kansas City metro and surrounding areas are experiencing a dangerous drop in available blood supply after summer brought a decline in donations.

Monday, Community Blood Center declared a blood emergency after a significant drop in their blood supply inventory.

“We urgently need the community’s help to rebuild the blood supply and prevent this situation from becoming more dire,” said Chelsea Tibbetts, Executive Director at Community Blood Center.

The center claims that the summer season has brought on the expected decline in donations as people go away for vacations and heat waves keep donors in doors.

They also said they are especially low on both O-positive and O-negative blood donations.
