CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio -- With about a month to go until the city’s second-ever mayoral primary, five candidates made their cases last week for advancing to the general election.
The two top vote-getters will face off Nov. 4 to become the second elected mayor in the city’s history.
Saying that local elections consistently have the lowest voter turnout, Heights League of Women Voters moderator Wendy Deuring took note of the capacity crowd assembled at the Cleveland Heights Community Center for the Aug. 7 forum.
“I suspect that might be different this time (on election day),” Deuring said.
“This is what democracy looks like.”
Incumbent Mayor Kahlil Seren did not make the primary ballot after falling short on valid signatures .
He also faces a recall election on the same Sept. 9 prim
