Crews are fighting to contain dozens of hectares of forest fire that have been ripping through the Burnt River area of Kawartha Lakes, Ont. since Friday .
Seven firefighting crews are “making headway” against the 27 hectares burning on Monday, Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) confirmed in a city news release .
But conditions are hot and dry, and wind could make the situation more challenging, the city added.
“Residents of course are nervous, concerned, but they also understand that the professionals are there and doing what they can do to get the situation under control and end it,” said Doug Elmslie, mayor of Kawartha Lakes.
