First responders were put at a greater risk Sunday as cars attempted to drive around downed wires.

As an Orange ambulance was arriving to a scene of downed wires, a vehicle crossed into the opposing lane and drove just under the wires and continued on. The ambulance attempted to block other cars from making the same decision, however the car behind the ambulance then drove under the wires and continued on their way.

“If one of the vehicles had snagged the wires or other debris, it could’ve brought down the other pole, and/or created a secondary incident, also jeopardizing those on scene,” the fire rescue wrote.

Instead, people should stop and await instruction or turn around.
