EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)– Many of Rhode Island’s political leaders will break ground on the new East Providence Community Center on Tuesday morning.

The new center will be located at 610 Waterman Ave., near the city’s senior center and high school, and will be built by Bentley Builders.

The community center will include multi-purpose classroom spaces, a gymnasium and open space for recreational use.

$16 million in federal funds is helping to fund the construction of the center.

Gov. Dan McKee, Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos, U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, Secretary of State Gregg Amore and East Providence Mayor Bob DaSilva, among other elected officials, are expected to attend.

According to the city’s website, construction is expected to occur through the end of 2026.
