When the Celtics were sold for a then-record $6.1 billion , current governor Wyc Grousbeck was expected to stay in his role through the 2027-28 season. But with the sale soon expected to be finalized, that will no longer be the case.

Grousbeck will no longer stay on as governor of the Celtics after the sale, per ESPN , as new owner Bill Chisholm will assume the title after the sale is finalized. However, Grousbeck is expected to retain the CEO title and be an alternate governor, according to ESPN. So Grousbeck will still stay on in some capacity with the Celtics.
