Woman killed by falling branch in park as emergency services race to scene

A woman has tragically died after being struck by a falling branch whilst walking through a park with a child. ‌

The incident occurred near the Buncer Lane entrance to Witton Country Park in Blackburn just after 8.30pm on Monday evening. Emergency services rushed to the scene and discovered the woman , thought to be in her 30s, unresponsive. ‌

She was sadly declared dead at the scene. A cordon was put up inside the park, and Blackburn with Darwen Council have since removed the beech tree from which the branch fell, reports the Mirror . ‌

A council statement said: "Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council is deeply saddened to confirm that a member of the public has tragically died following an incident in Witton Park yesterday, when a large tree branch fell." ‌
